On Wednesday, May 18, 2013, crowds lined up a while early to be part of the 30th anniversary celebration in the California Strawberry Festival through Oxnard, CA. As premature as 9am, the air was loaded with beautiful, sweet scents of strawberries in addition to aromas of garlic and grilled meats within the food court enticed some of our appetites. Some of us didnt have breakfast to save room eat the great foods that awaits u . s . beyond the Red Entrance. Attendees also sport strawberry-related supplies from hats to ear-rings to dying their hair for a beautiful strawberry red.
As typically the 10am bell rang by Oxnard College campus, the red gate opened up to happy patrons from this annual event. As you walk with the Red Gate, you receive your first tastes associated with California strawberries, chilled and even super-sweet. Whole flats (12 pint baskets) have been only $16, what a wonderful deal! Mental note: pick them up en route out. Its time and energy to balance out the pleasant with some savory. If you want smoked turkey legs, the festivals has some excellent ones. Perfectly smoked and flavored due to the bone! The Greek food booth was huge at the moment with so many picks. The Philly Cheese Meat Fries were gigantic! It turned out an interesting flavor, as a substitute for ribeye they used the particular gyro meat which actually worked effectively. The fries were thinner cut spirals which obtained a French fry/potato nick flavor. The grilled onions, bell peppers, and cheese sauce hit the location. The beef kabob is disappointing. After waiting almost 20 minutes for any order, the beef has been very tough and chewy. It probably needed to always be cooked on a lower heat much more time to make it young. Roasted corn, on the additional hand, was sweet not to mention roasted to perfection.
At 11: 00am, any Strawberry Promenade stage presented, Bricia Lopez, executive chef of Guelaguetza restaurant in La, CA, with her "Strawberry as well as Chapulin (Oaxacan grasshopper) Spring Salad". The flavors reacted nicely along with the strawberries for a clean spring salad. The main event for the day was the Berry Blast-Off Recipe ingredients Contest Smack Down. After helping select these two finalists a few weeks ago, I was determined to support to see who the judges would pick when the champion and winner on the four-night cruise. In the actual left corner, Winona Krieger organized her Strawberry Brulee (with Rockin Super berry Brittle). Our last food stop of waking time was funnel cakes. Watching people walking on with these beautifully fluffy concoctions, they were essential for the ride home. The Cinnamon Sugar Funnel Cake was such as huge puffy churro. The cinnamon sugar mixture stuck while in the nooks and crannies on a perfectly, not too sugary dessert. Funnel cake topped with powdered sugar is definitely a favorite too!
As we walked in the Red Gate and purchased a set of strawberries for the trail, we sighed as one more wonderful day was had from the California Strawberry Festival. Its amazing how fast six hours goes. Make your plans to go to next years event!
