I be required to admit, I had great doubts. Having visited herbal tea rooms or both shorelines, I got pretty much resigned to that afternoon tea, or more than its American incarnation, isn't for me. I necessarily mean, crust-less sandwiches are in place there with non-alcoholic draught beer and fat-free ice solution. And much as I'm keen a good cup connected with tea, most of a places I happened (un-happened? ) still left me cold.

Enter Comfort, a tiny yellow brick put on East Patrick street around Frederick. It was heated, and we were fatigued after spending half on a daily basis at Easels of Frederick, a paint-out event that my sister, Juliya, participated in. Juliya actually considered Serenity being a subject of her painting like a pro that day, but ultimately decided to pay attention to Zoe's Chocolate on Market Street (something concerning light, shadows and alternative activities that I mostly fake to understand). But designed for lunch, the light was just correct: )

It was much too hot to sit outside (Serenity provides a small outdoor garden in the back). To be frank, it was almost at the same time warm inside. But in some it felt right. Calmness is - well, tranquil. The unhurried service (Blanche Holly runs the place thanks to her two daughters as well as a fourth helper made an intermittent appearance), the old a little bit wavy window panes, typically the assorted but elegant old-fashioned japan, the dressed-up family in eight quietly (! ) giggling for the other table - lots of the pieces somehow fit together inside a harmony that is very near perfect.

Serenity is equipped with an respectable selection of their tea; because we were sizzling hot (see above), we went for all the iced version (of which there were only some choices). The sandwiches were common - Hillwood Museum tea room is due to the same league - using the usual assortment of ovum salad, salmon, curried chicken and two or three other fillings, and all the soup that Juliya tested out was ok, too. Somehow the atmosphere from Serenity makes one just rest, relax and enjoy whatever is now being offered, even if tea pastries and carrot cake wasn't too memorable.

But the actual scone... Let's just say that we, having gone through wife of my life claiming i always don't like sweets, sought after the recipe. Several moments. That scone (strawberry was the flavor for the month) is magical. How a whole lot of flavor and taste fits inside of a (very regrettably) such a tiny pastry is a finished mystery. It is brightness, not too sweet, not too dense instead of too crumbly. Darn in close proximity to perfect, excuse my The language.

After refusing to make me the recipe for those third time (apparently and also understandably, it is the closely-held family secret), Blanch mentioned that searchers from as far Los angeles and South Africa visit Serenity just for your scones, which they proclaim the best on the earth. I won't be n any way surprised if it became true. That scone is usually hard to forget.

Blanch also laughed and said that the scones stay still well and suggested we have a dozen home. I discovered the strength to deny, the decision of that i am very proud (and that we regretted several times within the last few two weeks). But heya, the next month' flavor is rumored for being peach-blueberry - so we've found a reason to return!
