Food plays a key role in Fruitvale Place, a newly released independent film shot on the San Francisco Bay locale.
A star within the show is a distinctive New Years Eve household gumbo birthday dinner designed for Wanda (Octavia Spencer, who won an Oscar for my child role as a housekeeper while in the Help). Wanda is mom of Oscar Grant 3 (Michael B. Jordan), an adolescent unmarried father who recently was fired in order to be late to his occupation at Farmer Joes store.
Early in that film, as Oscar places his or her crab and shrimp order for your gumbo and talks together with cousin who works in back of the fish counter, an adolescent white woman (Melinda Torgersen) appears and asks the cousin for assist in frying fish.
