Sourcing sustainably grown organic produce with the thousands of meals it offers each day is about for any lot easier for Challenge Open Hand (POH). The venerable San Francisco charitable organization is planning construction of the indoor greenhouse at its headquarters only a couple of blocks from Civic Core.

Project Open Hand is providing meals with desire to people living with HIV/AIDS in San francisco bay area since 1985, first out of Founder Ruth Brinkers cooking area, then in the den of Trinity Church from Franklin and Pine, then in your Mission at Bryant as well as 17th Street. In 1997, this company moved to its gift location at 730 Polk Road where, for the very first time, all of its courses are under one roof top, including the daily snack program, which includes a fabulous state-of-the-art kitchen and the distribution center, the Grocery Center where clients will come in in and pick all the way up weekly groceries, its eating program and soon, a brand new growing operation for herbal selections and greens.

POH expects the on-site garden to minimize food waste and spoilage, lower its costs for all natural produce, and improve entry to fresh food year over. The charity already sources a percentage of its food locally by having a partnership with Heart of your City Farmer's Market and long-term relationships together with the Garden Project and Frisco Food Bank. The green house initiative will build for that effort.
