Yes, I've met it is late. The Passover has concluded. But - but - however ,... It is not often that her restaurant I have about crossed off my list makes an abrupt comeback. Amici Miei, my hat is off you - you managed to help you pleasantly surprise me.
By the end within the Passover week most men and women that observe the holiday are generally out of ideas on the subject of going out. Another greens? Oh no. Another hamburger with mashed potatoes? Oh occur. How about some pleasant broiled fish with roasting veggies? Oh please...
Anyway, it so happened that people had to go on a Saturday night. The usual places - Addie's, Dark Market, even my active favorite Wildwood Kitchen - many were booked through 9: 30 or simply later. And that's as i remembered Amici Miei.
I was very excited if they first opened, many moons gone. A new Italian place by having a real credentlaied chef! Crispy melted sardines! Vitello tonnato! Proper pizza oven! Yum! So temporarly while Amici Miei was this first choice for dinners all over home. But, as it all often happens, things became less exciting as time continued. First came other dependable pizza places nearby, then a vitello tonnato disappeared, that service was, er, less than perfect maybe once or twice... So, it's been a few years since my last an evening meal there.
I am not aware of when, but at some point over these lost years, Amici Miei modified. The service is fantastic, the noise level might be down, paintings by the members of this Montgomery Art Association range the walls (although the latter will not be necessarily a compliment) And they also had a special Passover food.
And not only did they've got that special menu, however the food was actually scrumptious. The matzo ball soups, while not comparable to your miracle dish at a sorely missed Felix, is at least competitive with most homemade versions. The roasted half-chicken generally is half of a practically sized bird, beautifully gold colored brown, moist and - something too many kitchens in some manner often miss - brimming with flavor.
The almond-orange-dried fig wedding cake was surprisingly good - in case Amici Miei were to hold it on the common menu, I'd gladly order it even outside the holiday season.
One thing I miss - why wasn't Amici Miei as part of the Passover restaurant review? I know where I will spend one or more night next year. And I am fairly certain that night will change from many other full night's.
