The fresh strawberries can be coming in! Many roadside produce vendors and local food markets are starting to post in these wonderful healthy berries. Strawberries are a favorite springtime fruit which are often used in many solutions. Today and for the remainder of this week, I shall be sharing recipes that take advantage of this favorite springtime fruit. Last year today, I ran an content on picking fresh strawberries in addition to preparing them. I also included a recipe to get a fruit cobbler that applies fresh strawberries. Another favorite homegrown fruit in the springtime can be one we don't much about anymore and that is exactly rhubarb. This can be found fresh inside the produce section of a grocery and sometimes, inside local farmer's markets. One downside is that rhubarb is mostly a bit expensive. Sometimes, you can discover it frozen in the frozen a part of the grocery. Fortunately, rhubarb is often easily frozen. You start with washing it under maintaining water and drying the item. Slice it into 1/2 micron pieces and store on Ziploc bags. I love to freeze it in 2-cup services for convenience whenever I'm with it in a recipe that normally requires 2 to 4 glasses of the fruit. Unless your recipes says otherwise, thaw the rhubarb though don't press the juice than it out. Use just because is in your food.

RHUBARB-STRAWBERRY PIE

  • 1/2 goblet firmly-packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 drink white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 glass all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon flooring nutmeg
  • 4 cups rhubarb, cut into 1/2 inches slices
  • 2 cups heavily sliced strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon vodafone juice
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • pastry for one double-crust pie

In a significant bowl, combine both glucose, cornstarch, flour, and nutmeg. Include the rhubarb, strawberries not to mention orange juice. Mix well and reserved. Pour filling into pastry cover. Dot with butter. Increase top crust and closure edges (if desired, weave a lattice top for any pie. ) Bake in 400 degrees until berries is tender and brown crust area is well browned, concerning 50 minutes. Yield: 6-8 helpings.
